about

2AeM is a cooperative design effort composed of the 3 young Midwestern-sprung, spread-the world-out, out-and-out Architecture student-architects: nicholas m. reiter, Jessie Wilcox and Peter Nguyen. The team base was originally Milwaukee, WI but since has become a mobile abstraction or a state of mind. 2AeM is sometimes physical, sometimes sober, partially virtual, usually vocal, and all-the-time IN-it.

We are track jumpers, demons, villains and observing you right now. Design is the New and so are the Stakes.

for the time being

a professor shared this with me.. a few times. as i reread, i'm reminded to breathe and simply be.

"For the time being the highest peak, for the time being the deepest ocean; for the time being a crazy mind, for the time being a Buddha body; for the time being a Zen Master, for the time being an ordinary person; for the time being earth and sky… Since there is nothing but this moment, ‘for the time being’ is all the time there is...

We want enjoyment, we want to avoid pain and discomfort. But it is impossible that things will always work out, impossible to avoid pain and discomfort. So to be happy, with a happiness that doesn’t blow away with every wind, we need to be able to make use of what happens to us — all of it — whether we find ourselves at the top of a mountain or at the bottom of the sea.

feedback loop

out now on lulu:

"Feedback Loop is an introduction to the ideas underlying recent experimentation with complexity in architecture. it presents key concepts such as prototyping, non-linear order, emergence, bottom-up thinking, parametric thinking, generative scripting and biomorphism, and it does so in plain language for students of architecture and others who seek an entry point into the discussion of recent design work. many of these ideas, which arose in other fields of study, are interpreted architecturally, in order to help designers leverage them in the creative act. by showing how the key concepts work together to define a coherent view of architecture, Feedback Loop supports the conclusion that the pursuit of complexity is poised to expand beyond the avant-garde to become a broad-scoped, long-term architectural movement."

product_sculpture

this post is long over due, but only recently caught a chance to snap some photos.
for those interested; dimensions are roughly 6' x 8'. it weighs more than you'd care to know, but i've got it up on casters.

i've repurposed some found shipping pallets from a nearby residence doing some remodeling. ripped them down. and integrated a set of 36 plaster tiles i cast from clay, coated in 2 part rubber, and filled with plaster. more on the process.

the piece is rough, raw, and simple connections all honor the same inherent qualities of the palettes. i was interested in using repetition as a visual quality and complement the warm, raw nature of the wood with the white, smooth qualities exhibited by the plaster.

for now. enjoy the photos.

SO-IL won ps1 with pole dance

check out this video. clear, elegant, dynamic, fun method showcasing SO-IL's winning proposal from this year's ps1 + moma young architects program [a decade of design]

it's called pole dance.

for me, BIG gave them competition by appealing to logic and environmental virtues [full material life cycle...], but SO-IL's proposal seems gentler, ethereal, playful, simpler. this competition is always inspiring. will have to make the trip one of these years.

life cycle ps1

BIG has done it, their entry into the ps1 design competition is 1 of 7295.

the entry, by invitation - [denmark?!] + [well-established?1], considers the full life cycle of the materials used. the soapy bubble forms will be fully down_cycled into 7,295 plastic bags. oh, the bubbles started as truck bed covers...

the entire installation is 99% air. 1% material... to relax in, play in, reflect in, and on - light, shade, texture. great stuff.

here's a nice link to archdaily's coverage of the last ten years of ps1
