about

2AeM is a cooperative design effort composed of the 3 young Midwestern-sprung, spread-the world-out, out-and-out Architecture student-architects: nicholas m. reiter, Jessie Wilcox and Peter Nguyen. The team base was originally Milwaukee, WI but since has become a mobile abstraction or a state of mind. 2AeM is sometimes physical, sometimes sober, partially virtual, usually vocal, and all-the-time IN-it.

We are track jumpers, demons, villains and observing you right now. Design is the New and so are the Stakes.

big bang, big boom

i really enjoy this artist's work. this is not the first example to show up on 2A_eM... the dedication still blows my mind. ten months since the last video, big bang boom showed up on vimeo yesterday and getting tons of love.

the wall murals really start to interact nicely with the found object sculptures in concert with time lapse photography.

described as: "an unscientific point of view on the beginning and evolution of life... and how it could probably end." it reminds me of pearl jam's music video; do the evolution - from way back in '98.

enjoy:

cop15

been trying to follow the cop15 conference
the optimism...
the compromise....
the frustration....
the hope...
the disappointment....

i was intrigued by this first hand account by thom yorke. acquiring a press pass he has logged thoughts at deadairspace

here are a few of his thoughts;

"and as i wrote the previous entry my battery goes dead and obama walks past with a very grim expression, everyone thought he was stroming out but no he'd just been in talks with the chinese. just now a french delegate tells me that brazil has stormed out of the talks. this is all so sad. still peace and goodwill to all men. love and understanding.

just no more business as usual ok?? this is all starting to really feel like some enormous vaguely pointless corporate expo."

"well ... i am truly disgusted about the way things have ended here. if you read in tommorrows headlines that a deal was reached?? remember it was nothing like what was needed and was filed by a bored complicit press who needed to show something for two weeks of crap.. and that it reflected the wests inability to lead decisively.
that it will make alarm bells ring throughout the world.
we have no international agreement. this is all too too late.
i feel deeply traumatized by the whole experience. if you'd been there you would also have been."

i also stumbled upon an interview via pitchfork brought to you by the age of stupid

please leave your thoughts if you're at all concerned, outraged, inspired, hopeful....

experimenting with perception

after a long night, some strange thoughts flicker through one's head.

my roommate and i have endeavored on a new experiment with the qualities and synaesthesia.

the idea is to play an in congruence with an instrumental piece of music as a driver for another, secondary spark of creativity.
quick writings, inspired by vibrations. a dialogue built between two, could be infinite, furthers depth, weaving the tapestry into focus...

play while reading. play while writing. play while thinking....

[push play]

[read]
the music rises and falls, undulating like the surface of the sea. am i lost? am i on a nautical navigation to some sort of distant destination?

Mother nature, evident in the Midwest. Harmonies exist between men and their mothers. Inland America, the statistical average of the sea to shining sea. Are we forgotten? Is our fate nothing else but to be mocked by the 'united citizens'?

the horizon breaches... a glimpse of a tail dives back beneath an azure blanket. comforting...

Another day dawns upon us. Who are we? What are we? What are we capable of? insecurity threatens our existence like a cold war - when will we dispose of our preconceived notions? when will things change?

central park yelps. rat dogs. slow rain. heavy drops dance across the window pane...

I see a crane. Is development to be taken literally, or figuratively? Is it a mere coat of arms for a society or something more?

bring your coat, we're going out. to where? its not about the destination.

It's about the journey. Imagine an apple core... how did it come to be? Where did it come from? Who harvested it? What were they like?

eyes squinching shut on an undersized couch. no comfort. head spinning. gaining bearings, smacking lips, cotton mouth, nothing to do but wait it out.

I can't sleep. Am I awake? There's nothing I can do but shake.

on the edge of a cliff. waiting for gravity to release me. wind steals droplets from my face. the hike down through pine canopies, yellow stones, chipmunks, squirrels, into the unknown. don't feed them, just jump in.

Please leave a comment on how the two work together.

-lomography-

I have recently gotten into photography. its something nick, jessie and I are interested in. but I decided to take a turn into film since its more of a hobby for me than it is an profession (basically i don't have deadlines or clients) :D

they call it the PIKA PIKA project, finally something i found that deals with light art..! hopefully soon in the future i'll be able to do something with medium format. but until then!

something new. something old.

I was introduced to something new this month.

and I got to say. its definitely has got me rocking lately to do a bit more photograpy and design work. hopefully these things will be either posted here or on my personal blog.

this little thing caught my eye recently.
while the team was in detroit we noticed this cute little thing being put up.

We didn't think much of it then. but now looking back, we should have played detective and really checked it out. :(

maybe next time we'll be a little more alert about our surroundings.

heres the link if your interested in reading up on it.
enjoy.

you blink when you breathe and you breathe when you lie

there's been a lot of buzz around this group lately. but i must say, when alison mosshart and jack white get together under the dead weather they're so much more hardcore than the white stripes. the kills are great, and the raconteurs rock, but when you bring them together you better be ready for the ride especially with the support of jack lawrence on bass and dean fertita on guitar.

here's a little preview. the group's first album came out a couple weeks ago [july 14] and i was lucky enough to catch them as they passed through minneapolis - rocking the legendary first avenue.

opening with the epic 60 feet tall the band brought the packed house on a wild ride. working their way through the album, some highlights include a cover of "you just can't win" where jack white came out from behind the drums to vocalize. "cut like a buffalo" and "hang you up from the heavens" were crowd pleasers. and true to rocker form jack white shared his gift of guitar with the crowd - absolutely shredding it to pieces. alison mosshart has an amazing stage presence, climbing all over the speakers, rocking around like a drunkard, she commands attention. after burning through two encores the band ended with "treat me like your mother" before walking off stage arm in arm - a true collaboration.

the new music/promotional video, directed by jonathan glazer, it's pretty straight forward flick, but so entertaining, one of my favs on the album:

house of cards_radiohead

okay... so i have to post it.
i was reviewing some albums and artists on pitchfork earlier and it reminded me of this video.
so the band has divorced themselves from the previous record label - columbia records after an amazing viral album/mp3 campaign. the label still holds all the rights from the six previous albums and have decided to reissue them all with b sides added. columbia is sucking everything they can get riding their mainstream success. the best of flopped, but these b sides may prove intriguing....

the video house of cards was made using 3d plotting technologies: : Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR.

"Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes."

not only is this an amazing song: haunting, but terrific visuals too: a dream. it brings to mind vaporization and the party scene.

heres a link to the making of video... it gives more information on the above mentioned technologies.
our lives are digital... everything is data. it's essentially a direct reflection of where we are in today's society....
