a phenomenologist, speaking of a particular place, with particular materials, but with insight into what could be discerned as contemporary viewpoints, such as "all parts as a whole" and always experiencing the "imprint of the architect", "never escaping the presense of the architect." and those ideas which belong to both, perhaps: architecture of the 5 senses, architecture as instrument, materiality and comprehensive design.

one of my all time favorite projects! this is one of the most intimate and comprehensive looks into the baths at vals! thanks for sharing. i totally get off to two of the ideas zumthor holds near and dear; atmospheres and concrete architecture. loved his compromise of the clocks! some descriptors that came to mind when viewing; mystical, mythical, ritualistic, temporal, symphony, novel, poetic, successful, simple, eerie, exciting, embedded, intimate, beautiful, restorative, recuperative, sensory, tactile, sublime....
ReplyDeleteWow, This project is awe inspiring. The puzzle piece pods with secret room inside with gaps between the pods and a garderner who seems to be constantly mowing. This building makes me feel let down by common place architecture.
